COFFEE

Amelia Franklin Coffee Roasters (People of Coffee)
Amelia Franklin is a specialty Fair Trade coffee roaster based in Bellingen sourcing her beans from some of the richest soils in the world and has won many prestigious awards for her own unique blends. Amelia Franklin sources her products directly from ethical producers from Papua New Guinea, Mexico, Sumatra, East Timor and Nicaragua and imports the beans directly into Australia. Fair Trade is a cooperative system that is set up in third world countries that enforces and governs the cost of produce. The secret to a good coffee is to not over roast and burn the beans, so that you don’t start with an over-roasted bean that all the oils are going out of as that is what you want in your coffee. “That's the kind of customer I want, one who appreciates artisan, hand-roasted coffee,” Franklin says. “I'm proud that my whole business is fair-trade organic, so I'm helping the people who grow it, too.”
